A microcosm of American society, survivors of a World War II torpedoing, adrift in a lifeboat, nearly come a cropper when they take a Nazi aboard. Dumbly dismissed as an artistic failure by most critics, it has some ridiculous flaws, but is nonetheless an interesting and engrossing film. Tunnel-voiced Tallulah Bankhead is tops in this seagoing Grand Hotel. Look for Hitchcock's pictorial trademark in a newspaper.
